The Postcolonialist is an online magazine and journal launching in November 2013. The publication seeks to be an alternative and interactive avenue by which scholars, journalists, artists, and activists from around the world can collaborate and engage in dialogues of culture, power, and civil society in Postcolonial regions (encompassing the Americas, the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Diasporic communities, and indeed the ex-métropoles). With a focus on multi-lingual and cross-regional work, The Postcolonialist endeavors to view the global South and its diaspora in concert. We seek to displace notions of ‘center’ and ‘periphery,’ instead showcasing the artistry, innovation, and critical production of postcolonial regions and peoples as constitutive of and central to a globally interconnected future.
Call for Submissions
The Postcolonialist welcomes contributions in fields including but not limited to language and literature, visual and performing arts, film, political science, gender studies, media, and sociology. Pieces may be journalistic, editorial, or academic.
While most contributions will be in English, submissions are welcome in French, Spanish, and Portuguese. Artwork, relevant interviews, and photography may also be welcome, though an initial proposal must be submitted. Articles may be peer reviewed upon request, and will be designated as having been peer reviewed once made available on the website. Shorter pieces may be up to 1,500 words, while feature or scholarly articles may be up to 6,000 words. A short bio should be included with the submission.
Areas of interest include but are not limited to:
- Arts and society (includes literature and film)
- Gender and political participation
- Education
- Immigration and diaspora
- Civil society and the international stage
- Media and the global South
- Citizenship and identity
- Language, multi-lingualism, and language hierarchies
- “emerging markets”

Convocatoria
The Postcolonialist acoge contribuciones en diferentes disciplinas (sin exclusión de otras) tales como lengua y literatura, artes visuales y performance, cine, ciencias políticas, estudios de género y sexualidad, comunicaciones, y sociología. Los artículos podrán tener carácter académico, periodístico, ensayístico o científico.
Aunque la mayoría de los textos serán en inglés, se aceptarán igualmente artículos en español, francés, y portugués. Los proyectos de arte, entrevistas y fotografías podrán ser sometidos a la revista previa petición inicial. Los artículos de investigación serán evaluados por pares (Peer Reviewed), indicándose en la publicación dicha evaluación. Para ello, se enviarán por separado del nombre del autor/a en otro archivo. Los relatos breves o periodísticos podrán tener una extensión de 1,500 palabras. Los artículos de investigación deben ser de aproximadamente 6,000 palabras. Todas las propuestas deberán incluir un breve CV.
De entre las temáticas o áreas de interés, sin excluir otras, destacan:
- Arte (cine, literatura, pintura, música)
- Sociología
- Género, sexualidad, y participación política
- La educación
- Inmigración y diáspora

Enquanto a maioria das contribuições estará escritas em inglês, aceitaremos submissões em francês, espanhol e português também. Obras de arte, entrevistas relevantes e fotografia também aceitaremos, embora uma proposta inicial deva ser apresentado. Os artigos podem ser revisados por pares a pedido, e será designada como tendo sido revisados uma vez disponibilizado no site. Obras mais curtas podem ser até 1,500 palavras, enquanto uma matéria principal ou um artigo acadêmico podem ser até 6,000 palavras. Uma pequena biografia deve ser incluído com a proposta.

The Postcolonialist est une revue interdisciplinaire, regroupant une diversité de disciplines comme la linguistique, les études littéraires, les arts visuels, la performance, le cinéma, les études de genre, les médias, la sociologie, etc.
Les articles peuvent être écrits en anglais, en français, en espagnol ou en portugais, et être de nature journalistique, éditoriale ou académique. À la demande de l’auteur, les articles peuvent être arbitrés et identifiés comme tels sur le site de la revue. La revue peut aussi publier des entrevues pertinentes ou des projets artistiques (œuvres d’art, photographie), mais les énoncés de projets sont soumis à l’approbation préalable du comité éditorial. La revue accepte des articles scientifiques allant jusqu’à 6000 mots, ainsi que des textes plus courts, d’environ 1500 mots. Toutes les propositions doivent inclure une courte biobibliographie.
Sans exhaustivité, les domaines d’études suivants sont privilégiés :
